FAQs
Try Airplane mode.
Some phones will allow you to purchase a foreign SIM card and use that to get 3G data service overseas (AT&T iPhones in the US). Some phones simply cannot get 3G service overseas (Verizon and Sprint iPhones cannot get 3G data service in Europe).
Treasure Walks can be used overseas, or in the US, in Airplane Mode. GPS location data will not be as high in quality, but can be boosted by accessing Wi-Fi service.
Steps to use Treasure Walks in Airplane Mode:
When you leave home go to Settings on your iPhone and tap Airplane Mode to turn it on.
When you turn Airplane Mode on, your iPhone will turn Wi-Fi “OFF”. While still in Settings turn Wi-Fi “ON”.
Before starting your Treasure Walk go to a Wi-Fi hotspot. Make sure your iPhone’s Wi-Fi is on and you are connected. Then select the Treasure Walks app, select a route and get ready to start your tour.
When your Treasure Walk is complete you will again need to access Wi-Fi to upload your Treasure Walk score to the Leaderboard and to share your Treasure Walk with your Facebook friends.
Hotels, Starbucks, MacDonalds and many more places offer free wifi access. You can also download a free app such as WiFi Finder to help you locate free Wi-Fi hotspots wherever you are in the world.
Tour Screen
Great, you selected your tour route and now you need to find the start point. Follow the directions, the app will track your gps location and prompt you to begin when you arrive at the start location.
Treasure Clues
Once you begin your tour you will be given your first Scavenger Challenge. You will be given a clue which will ask you to locate a place, an object, a date or some other local information. Follow the route track and you will find the answer.
Challenges can be solved by inputting text, or a number. Challenges can also be solved by finding the mystery object and taking a picture. Look for challenges that ask you to “take a picture”.
When you are in the vacinity of the Challenge answer location the app will allow you to access the answer text box (for text and numerical answers), or the answer camera for Challenges answered with a photo.
When you answer a challenge your position will be geo-tagged by your iPhone. You must answer challenges in the vacinity of the answer location. If you are 200ft away the app will not allow you to answer the question.
When prompted to answer with a picture you can take a picture of anything or anybody. Preferably friends or cool stuff. As long as you are in the right location you will earn the points for the challenge.
Red Light
The app is constantly tracking your location relative to the Challenge Answer location. If you walk past the answer location region the app will prompt you to go back and look again.
Can’t find the answer?
It happens. Tough clue or even a bad gps day. If you need to move on to the next question tap the “skip” icon on the answer box. You’ll miss out on the points for this challenge, but you’ll keep moveing and move on to the next challenge.
